I have a number of direct logic 440 CPU RTU’s communicating over a large Ethernet network. I noticed when ping response times are greater than 60ms I get a ‘transport protocol error’ with DirectSoft5. With a nominal response of 6 ms, everything works fine, but greater response times give a timeout error. I couldn’t find any parameter in the DirectSoft communications configuration that would correct this. Any ideas would be appreciated.

On the Ethernet device page of the Link Configuration, there is an Advanced button. Your timeout there is probably set to 50ms or so. Bump that up. Note that you cannot access that button while the link is in use.
