Productivity p1-622 modbus to powerflex 525
Has anyone ever tried to control an ab powerflex 525 using an automation direct plc. I’m talking like start and stop and different frequencies.

Yes, we have controlled an A-B Powerflex 525 using an Automation Direct PLC (BRX PLC) for stop/start and different frequencies using discrete and analog outputs, very straightforward and easy from the PLC. (The A-B guy programmed the VFD.) But I assume you are looking to control the VFD via communications.
We don't have specific programming examples for this, but you can find the Modbus addressing information you need in the PowerFlex 525 manual's Modbus Addressing table:
https://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/20comm-um014_-en-p.pdf
From there, you'd use Modbus instructions (MWX/MRX) to read from or write to those addresses.
YAY, Rockwell still has some basic info that is not locked behind a paid contract
Instead of Modbus have you considered using EtherNet/IP?
I currently have a 2 drive setup in my shop using a BRX over EtherNet/IP.
