Does P2CDS-622 Support Alarm Configuration Object?

I am unable to add this object to my CODESYS project -> Application when my Device is set to P2CDS622. Works just fine when I Update Device and switch to ControlWin.

If this is not supported, I'd like to request that the Unsupported Features section of the P2CDS-622 System Reference gets updated to reflect that.

    Hey EthernetJP,

I'll take a look at this feature and get back to you with some information.

After I did some digging around I'm sorry to say the P2CDS-622 doesn't support this feature. We'll have the website updated to reflect this.

I am curious if this is a critical feature or one that is used often in projects?

    Hey FACTS_MikeSc,

I have an application that currently uses P2000 hardware with a CM5 HMI. As a R&D exercise to both explore the capabilities of the P2CDS-622 and to get some experience with CODESYS, I recently started porting this project over to the P2CDS-622.

The lack of support for Symbol Configuration means, at least for me, there are 2 paths to visualization:

    • use Modbus for HMI comms to HMI/SCADA
    • WebVisu / CODESYS visualization

Modbus route gives me more flexibility in deciding what hardware and software I use for visualization, but it also sounds tedious and error-prone, especially when compared to WebVisu where everything is tightly integrated with the PLC program and variables.

A key component of my existing application is alarming. CMORE alarming is nice and straightforward and provides what I consider a standard alarm engine, tracking all the usual associated events that my customers like to see i.e. when did the alarm occur, when was it acknowledged, is it still active, etc.

So to recreate the Alarm screen from my CMORE project, I grabbed my copy of the Book of CODESYS and flipped to Chapter 21, Alarm Management. Right out of the gate, I hit a wall because the Application -> Add Object list doesn't include the Alarm Configuration object.

If I Google "CODESYS alarm", the first result I get is:

    https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Visualization/_visu_struct_alarm_management.html

And if I search YouTube for "CODESYS alarm", the first 3 results are tutorials on Alarm Configuration.

The P2CDS-622 and this project are my first foray into CODESYS, so I cannot speak to whether or not this is a critical feature or one that is used often.

What I can say is that the lack of Symbol Configuration and Alarm Configuration are enough of a drawback that I would not propose a P2CDS-622-based solution to colleagues and or/management.

If we had a stable of engineers and/or technicians with a lot of previous CODESYS experience, or customers who were asking for it specifically, it would be different.

Plowing ahead with R&D and developing workarounds doesn't make a lot of sense when our tried and true solution for small to medium projects (P2000 or P3000 with C-MORE or 3rd party HMI) "just works".

Hoping there are some P2CDS-622 proponents on the forum who can chime in.

If you like the p2k hardware but want the full suite of CODESYS support, just use it as remote IO and grab a different CPU.
