P1-550 & Registration Move
Has anyone successfully used a P1-550 for a registration move? All the documentation sounds good and correct on its capabilities, but I can't get the move to stop based on an input.
I'm using a P1-550, & PS-AMC1
Can you share pictures of your hardware setup for the AMC and the ladder code for the instruction area?
It should work fine, but I dont believe I have ever actually used a registration instruction with that specific combination before
I've tried every variation I can think of and the move always completes but does capture the position at which the mark was detected. The position capture also only works when doing an absolute move.
Should mention as well that I'm not using an encoder with the AMC
You need to check the box "decel to a stop" to make the move stop when the registration input is triggered. The most accurate way for this to work in an SMOV is to have your move be the same length or ever so slightly longer than the registration mark is expected to be in the first place, and then the registration mark will trigger a decel to stop when it hits but the move should already be almost ready to stop anyway. That way the velocity is already very low, so the reg mark will be able to make it stop near instantly.
If you are moving fast when passing the mark you will overshoot it by the amount that a decel constant takes from the velocity you were at when you tripped the mark. So the faster you are moving, the more overshoot you will have. If you expect to be moving very quickly, a "Find Home" instruction might work better, so you can overshoot and stop, then return to the mark slowly so you land on it exactly.
This is good input, I've been expecting it to stop when it detects the mark. My moves have been fairly fast, 50mm/sec and only travelling 12mm with expected mark at 10.
Good idea on the Home.
I will try your suggestions tomorrow.
even at 1mm/sec and a 10mm move, the move always moves to the target regardless when it sees the registration mark. Also have erratic behavior on the move itself, sometimes it does the ABS or relative move, sometimes it never stops. Going to see if there is a method to clear its buffer.
the home instruction with the same sensor works perfect each time!
I recommend reaching out to our Technical Support team for assistance. You can call 1-800-633-0405 or select Contact Support.
Have the same issue with SMOV and registration. My test setup is: servo motor start SMOV and triggered decel to a stop. I was trying to control the position on where it stops by delaying registration action. Was unable to get stable oriented position - it is always erratic and unpredictable
I visited with Wayne at Tech Support for several days. It appears this function does not work as of 2/1/2026.
Returned and purchased an LS Electric PLC & PHOX drive combo.
