Controlling actuators with P1-16TR relay modules

Hello,

Just getting back into PLC/Arduino programming 21 years later into my career...I'm looking to use the P1AM to control Linear actuators using the P1-16TR as my relay modules. I'm just not exactly sure how to wire them into the outputs. Can I get a quick explanation or wiring help of how the P1-16TR will work? I will be using either 12 or 24 VDC actuators. I plan to power them with a power supply, but I'm stuck from there. I've made a concept machine with a manual rocker switch, but I'm not sure how it will work with the relay module.

Thanks!

Adam

would you happen to know the manufacture and model of the linear actuator you plan on using? it will help in determining the proper wiring.

In general no matter the manufacture i don't generally use relay output card as relays are a ware item and i would rather have them be external to the PLC for replacement if necessary at a future date without needing to replace the whole output card.

Thanks for the response. I'm thinking of just using something like this: https://www.firgelliauto.com/products/linear-actuators Firgelli FA-35-S-12-6

I'm still testing my concept prototype, so the force or stroke length might change, but the wiring should be identical. I would need it to extend and retract.

Ah I see. Do I need to add multiple relays or do I just need something different that can handle the higher amperage?

I edit my reply just before you responded but I would use a DC output card and 2 relays. if you already purchased your P1-16TR it will work just fine with the external relays but DC outputs to external relays are my preference when designing for long term reliability.

Ah. I haven't purchased anything yet. Thanks for the info. If I went the DC output card route. How many of those actuators would I be able to connect to each P1-16TR? 16 points = 16 actuators? I'm looking to build a prototype with 12 actuators. Then later a big scale system with 120 actuators.

a single P1-16TR with external relays would only be able to control 8 actuators You would need an output for each direction. the P1-15TD2 would be able to control 7 and a half as it has 15 outputs

When using one P1-16TR and 2 external relays. How many actuators would that yield me? Do I need an external relay for every actuator? Or is your wiring diagram you sent me would be in series to power all 8 from a single P1-16TR?

One P1-16TR and 16 external relays could individually control 8 linear actuators. If you some will be always moved at the exact same time and direction they could be ran on the same relays. but you will need to pay attention to overall current draw so dont burn up a set of contacts

Ah that's what I was afraid of. What do you mean by P1-16TR with external relays? I thought the relay drive circuit was built in the the board of the module?
