martinav (Customer) asked a question.

Can I embed tags inside a text body?

I'm using a static text block here. I was wondering if I can put a tag inline with other test. I have tried a couple methods that work in other software for such things...

Oh, these methods dont work.

    I've seen a lot of suggestions forwarded over the past couple of years but no capabilities improvements, only security and bug fixes. C-More panels used to be attractive because of their price and one could tolerate their limitations because of this. Since the Covid price increases the C-More panels are much less attractive now. There are other panels out there at the same price point that have many more features than the C-More. I was lamenting yesterday how slow the webserver is on the C-More and how it absolutely bogs down with a few trend views. I think the main thing going for them right now is their driver compatibility. You can forward this comment on.

    I doubt it, the help file says nothing about embedding any sort of tags. I suspect static text is indeed static, stored at compile time. One might consider dynamic text and builing the string in one's PLC.

    Seems rather basic. To include a tag in-line with text would seem rather fundamental for a graphical device as this. Putting together text with some basic font formatting and such would be a nightmare to piece together on a PLC first. I really expected more from this. Its quite a smart system. Surely we are both missing something? But, noone has jumped on this with a "you just need to..." so maybe not??

    I'm not giving up hope yet. Surely I can format a block of text and embed some tags in it??

    Hmm, the formatting is quite a bit underwhelming too. Seems font, size, weight also applies to the entire field. Not like I'm wanting MS Word or something, but I was trying to avoid making a dozen objects, and manually aligning them all together. I wanting something to be visually appealing, and not appear like a toddler did it, or for it to look like a ransom note.

      Inserted tags can be done using the Message Database but I've found it easier to generate the string inside of the PLC and send it to the HMI.

      Which HMI development environments have you worked in with this functionality?

      Anything I've been in, you would create this with a mix of static and dynamic string/text objects. Use alignment tools to align the objects. The static parts are one and done, not a huge deal.

    Ok, so not MS Word, but perhaps WordPad

    You could use a combination of static text and either dynamic text or lookup text (supports embedded tags) to put together something similar to the below:

    @ADC Community_02 (Automationdirect.com) ,

    Yes, that is what I am doing. Its a lot of manual alignment and such. The group functions help make it doable, but its still a rather excessive amount of manual labor. Some good thought went into the object layer list to help with this too. But, in the end, a very simple text editor would eliminate a LOT of the need for it.

    Thanks for the feedback! I will forward your suggestion and comments to our C-more Product Manager.
