RE: DuraPulse Drive Control Drawing Excessive Current
I recently got a call from a customer who installed a NEW DuraPulse AC Drive on a turret Index Motor. The motor would sometimes turn the load other times it would shutter and shake the motor so violently that the problem looked mechanical, drawing excessive current.
We looked over the mechanical parts of the Turret, and after that I felt better about there NOT being a mechanical Issue, (up to then I thought it was possible).
I RESET all the parameters to "factory Default" and reprogrammed the drive control from scratch. That was when I noticed that the parameter P2.08, the "Carrier Frequency" was set to 15KHz by default. That is WAY TOO HIGH in my opinion and made me start thinking we were fighting the 'reflected wave' between the output of the drive control and the motor.
I know other drive manufactures default the "Carrier Frequency" to around 4KHz to 6KHz so I set P2.08 to 6KHz and that made all the difference. There was no longer an extreme current draw at start-up and the motor rotates the Turret smoothly.
Hopefully this information helps others who may be experiencing the same issue.
Have A Great Day !

Thanks for your feedback! I have forwarded you comments to the Drives Product Manager.
The motor did not have an integral brake coil did it?
Hello,
RE: Barke Coil
It did have a brake in the motor AND a pneumatic brake on the turret.
The brake coil was 480vac single phase and fed from a separate contactor, sequenced by the PLC. The first thing I did was to bypass BOTH of the brakes, so I could make sure they were NOT dragging.
As I mentioned in the post, the brakes were NOT dragging.
The problem was the parameter setting.
