belias (Customer) asked a question.
I've spent the past few days trying to troubleshoot this, and I'm still scratching my head...
We recently purchased 4 Stride I/O modules (2 combo, an analog, and a 16 digital IO). They all exhibit an occasional problem on startup where they won't respond to pings or pass IP traffic either for a long period of time (minutes to hours) or indefinitely until power cycle.
This never happens once the device is up and running (i.e. once it's working, it continues to work), it only happens on the initial power up.
On a normal power-up, the units begin responding to pings after about 3-4 seconds. When the problem happens, the unit powers up normally, the green power LED turns on, the ethernet link light is on and the activity light is flashing but there's no response to pings and the unit can't be reached at its IP address. After watching the unit for a while (maybe a minute or so), both ethernet LEDs go dark for a second, the yellow status light flashes (maybe 100 mS), and then the ethernet lights go back to steady / flashing. At this point, sometimes it recovers and begins passing traffic and other times it doesn't and this "watchdog?" cycle continues.
This issues happens with all 4 Stride modules, across 3 different switches with 3 different power supplies. I've tried shielded cables, non-shielded cables, forcing the ethernet port to 100 FDX, but nothing seems to solve it entirely.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
Thank you!
This is not a known issue. Please contact AutomationDirect tech support. Please provide wireshark captures and config details.
OK - I provided a video showing the error, along with PCAPs for a normal bootup and a failed bootup (which required 2 "watchdog" cycles to begin communicating). I also provided screenshots showing the config.
