Coolhand (Customer) asked a question.

Industry standard/opinion on using an output for dual purpose.

I have been asked to add a stack lights to several pieces of equipment and not one of them has spare outputs or space for another module. I am betting that its bad practice to piggyback off of these signals.

I am against it . I could use some input from experts or some hard data to reference. Thanks

    1) It's not commonly done off of PLC outputs directly.

    2) You could potentially use interposing relays if space permits.

    3) You could look for a digital comms stack light.

Are you using an HMI? If so, what brand?

  • Coolhand (Customer)

No HMI, Mostly DL305 with AB dataliner displays for the most part.
