I haven't done it with an L8X but I have with a compact logix with a.1734-232ASC module.
The 1734-232ASC ended up going bad after about a year and instead of replacing it i went with a productivity 1000 as a communication bridge and it has been working like that for years now with no problems. the productivity 1000 speaks ethernet IP to the compact logix and i use the built in viewmarq instruction in the Productivity 1000 to the display
Was thinking about going with a 1734-485ASC originally but earliest delivery date is next April. Would like to stick with Rockwell PLC due to this being installed in the new Rivian auto plant and not wanting to introduce more PLC brands. We are just starting up the plant so naturally mfg. wants everything done right now. Thanks for the info though.

There is an add on instruction for modbuss TCP through open socket communication that might work
