Feature Request: Tasks and Tag Database
Been developing a project in Rockwell's Studio 5000 and is why this request came to me. Can PSuite have the tasks and tag database be in open tabs across the top of the programming window? If that is too difficult to do, how about a tag database one could minimize? Thanks!
I think this has been asked before, but a cursory search found nothing.
Thanks for the feedback! I have forwarded your request to the Productivity Product Manager.
@Todd Dice (Customer) Forgot about the pinning feature that may work for you.
1.) Unlock the layout and then drag the tagdb and dock it above the ladder window>
Screen space is already at a PREMIUM with this software, I think OP (and me) wants easy access to things like tag database without them taking up the valuable real estate all the time..
If the pinning allowed the dialog to reduce itself to a TAB(like the flyouts for [APPS], [TASKS] and [INSTRUCTIONS] do), then the pinning function would be more valuable.
See my post above. This is the pinning function you are referencing?
The solution provided works on my 27" monitor, but if Kewakl is like me, I spend a lot of time programming on-site at the PLC on a laptop with a 15" monitor. On my 27" monitor, there's about 1/4" of the screen unused past the output instruction. On my laptop, I have to scroll right to see an output. This is why Kewakl's first sentence is very true. I think it beneficial for the software developers to try using their software on a laptop to better see what those of us in the field are experiencing.
It seems that we can already do this. TIL!
I don't know if this can satisfy OP, but I will try it for a while.
I have always bound my flyouts on the left. I will have to test if I like them on top.
If you move the window to the top as @ADC Community_02 (Automationdirect.com) mentioned, then you can toggle autohide using the pushpin. So, if you need to work a bit in the window, push the pin so it is vertical. For momentary use, leave the pin in the horizontal orientation.
(Can these setting be exported/copied for use in other PC installs without having to recreate the setup?)
Wow, I test for 20 minutes, and @Todd Dice (Customer) has already committed a response. FAST!
Todd reminded me how fortunate I am that I have larger secondary monitors at both the desk and the crashcart. But, alas, sometimes I have to take a lonely 15'er out to the machine.
This approach may not be as practicable as I thought.
Need some test time. I hope I never get it! 😝
I am almost blind enough to need a 15' monitor. My 15" has to suffice for field work.
PSuite windows could take a lesson from Rockwell on handling child windows. Having multiple instances of the same "data table" with different radix selected and having the ability to set the z-order to "on top" are features that I love in RSLogix 5/500. Even the default settings allow a person to click on the ladder editor and bring it in front of the opened data table, and if you park it overlapping the navigation pane and the ladder window, the left edge is still showing so you can bring it back in focus with a click.
After ya'll get that knocked out, we'll talk about being able to drag tags from the database right into a ladder instruction.
I cannot argue with your logic.
Lately I have been working in RSLogix500 (again) on a 504. I feel so restricted! Cannot draw the rung wiring. I cannot do real arrays.Loops in one scan are right out.
I do, however, appreciate the run-time (test/untest) editing!
I should have started over with a blank address space instead of surgically striking edits into the project.
Docs do not live on this PLC. I do not have the better comms hardware so I am DF1 all the way.
This project also has PV1000. I do not like this HMI! I do not have the hardware to program this HMI over wire so it is PCMCIA! YAAAAYY!
Stuff from the last millennium doesn't have some of the QOL like stuff from this millennium.
