I have not heard of any plans to discontinue this product line any time soon, but that is subject to component availability, etc.

I like Allen Bradley's method of advance notice and phase out of availability.

A/B used to have a website that was easy to get to. Just type in:

    ab.com/silver

There, they set dates for various products. They got burned by that when an act of God stomped on their plan by sending a Tsunami to wipe out some older technology chip makers. Now they have gone vague on us, but it is still at least something of a warning.

And the website people over there are excessively verbose. Instead of "silver series" ... maybe that was politically incorrect and we CANNOT stand for any silver haired folks getting their feewings hurt, the website URL is so long, you have no chance of memorizing it and typing it in...

rockwellproductlifecyclestatusdetailsI just noticed that the Micrologix 1100, long rumored to be going away, finally has bit the dust. I just built a panel with one of them too. The 1400 is still listed as active...no date set. if it goes bye-bye, I will switch to Clicks and Do-Mores for everything. I will always have a need for RS-232 and RS-485 ports along with small I/O counts.

I have a few customers who insist on Allen-Bradley because their mechanics are familiar with RSLogix500. If the Micrologix 1400 goes bye-bye, this might be my chance to get them to convert to Automation Direct. Here's hoping.
