How to download dl-06 latest firmware to CPU?
Hi. I 'm having trouble using IBOX instructions in my DL 06 PLC. I downloaded the latest firmware from automation direct website but it only has a binary file and I have no ide how to use the file to upgrade my PLC.
This is the link I used to download the latest firmware for DL-06 PLC: AutomationDirect Technical Support - Firmware Binaries
Can anybody help me please?

You will need to use the Koyo Support Tool

I'm trying through the serial port of the PLC but its not working. I'm using the right 15 pin to 9 pin serial cable from automation direct. I am using a serial to USB converter. Can you help me out?
Thanks Garry. Having a hard time updating the firmware. Tried port 1 of the DL-06 but wasn't able to get it to work. Seems like only port 2 of the dl-06 will work for this. I don't have a 15 pin male to 9 pin female cable for this. How have you upgraded the firmware in the past? What's the easier way to do this? Do you think I could use an adapter for that?
Thanks for your help.
I use NetEdit3 that comes with DirectSoft, all my DL-06's are on ethernet if I start NetEdit3 I can see all the DL-06"s in my Plant and if their Firmware or Bootloader have newer versions an asterisk is displayed by that device, in column's marked Column marked "F" would have asterisk if newer firmware available and the same for bootloader column "B". I then update over ethernet which is not really a good Idea in case of a crash so to speak, however netedit3 will down load firmware for you. But jacked in to plc you could do same thing and much safer, you would still need to download firmware files first if no internet while running NetEdit3 at the PLC. Very Nice! Tool NetEdit3, it does a whole lot of other stuff also, like I use it to setup all the ethernet cards in the PLC's, IP address, module name, module ID, module type etc., and it shows mac address again very nice tool Enjoy.
Thanks for your reply. The netedit window is only showing the ethernet module. Can you please guide me on How to update the DL-06 firmware?
Appreciate your help.
I only do ethernet (have not done serial connection at PLC)but if you open NetEdit and look under network tab you have choices for protocol and serial connection to choose comm port to use so I am sure it will work. Good Luck
NetEdit3 under file tab has a live update button you probably have to be on internet with PC and serial link(or ethernet) to PLC for this to be totally automated. Otherwise you must download firmware to your PC in advance and remember where you put it then direct netedit3 to that location, While serial link to PLC your device should show up on netedit3 screen select that device then on Netedit3 screen down below select ecom tab it has update firmware and update bootloader buttons select firmware update it will ask for location of firmware BIN files and that's it. Have Fun! Same for Bootloader.
It turned out I was only able to upgrade the ECom firmware and not the CPU itself. Can't do it with ethernet alone. I would have to try serial with a 15 male to 9 female cable
I have updated the firmware in two different DL06 PLCs using Port 1 (serial RJ12) and it went well. I used a very trusty USB to serial converter with a D2-DSCBL. I have also run across one DL06 that had a failure of Port 1 (it was connected to a radio modem and we suspect that radio took a lightning strike).
I have not tried to use Port 2 for programming or a firmware update, but the cable you would need is here:

I do recall having to read between the lines a bit on the instructions to find the Koyo firmware update tool. After installing the tool, it took me a bit to find it in my Windows start menu. It did not appear under the DirectSoft group of programs nor did a Koyo group appear. I finally just typed in "Firmware" in the start menu and a list of stuff appeared, one of which is called "Firmware Update Tool" and its properties show the file location as "C:\Program Files (x86)\FirmwareUpdateTool\firmware update tool.exe"
It prompted me to shut down DirectSoft which also reminded me to kill RSLinx (because RSLinx likes to stomp on your COM ports even when you close the GUI).
You might already be past all that, but that handy bit of info might help future readers. And if you need a USB to serial converter that you can count on for all things RS232:

I love that thing. It is rugged, and nice and long and it has lights! Flickering LEDs are underrated when you are trying to figure out what is going on with a new and foreign type of serial connection.
