HOW TO CONNECT EA9 HMI TO MULTIPLE PLC SLAVE DEVICES?

Hello Experts,

I want to view the data coming from different slave devices having different PLC IP addresses. Is it possible ? I see we can add DEVxx under Ethernet in Panel Manager. All our slave devices are conned via LAN.

Thanks!

    Hi romnov,

You are correct. Just use the Add under the Panel Manager to add additional devices.

You can add up to 64 devices in the Panel Manager as devices. You may have issues before that number is reached depending on network traffic and response times.

    Regards,

    Garry

      Thanks for the reply Garry,

I want to set different screens for different slave device data. I do not understand how to assign a screens & slave ip addresses

        Hi romnov,

When you add a device in panel manager you will be prompted to specify the protocol. Once this is selected you can then enter the IP address for the slave.

This device will then be named DEV002... etc.

Use the tag database to add the tags required for each of the devices.

Design your screens and navigation to quickly get to the device you want the information on.

I hope this helps you out.

        Regards,

        Garry

@romnov (Customer) I am not sure if I understand you correctly.

        Do you want

        1. different screens assigned to different PLC/IP addresses?

        2. each of these PLCs to be able to control screen navigation?

        3. operator to be able to navigate to different screens which would then poll the assigned PLC for data?

1 and 2 would be difficult

        3 would be relatively easy.

Will there be a MASTER PLC in this system?

Do these PLCs run similar processes?

Will the screens for these PLCs have a similar layout/construction?

If you are able (within the bounds of IP/NDA) can you describe in a bit more detail what you have and where you would like to go? (what PLC/families/models)(what HMI model)

-other details and why I ask.

what datatypes/how much data/how quickly/logging -- We may be able to help determine if your expectations exceed hardware capabilities

what progress you have made -- Take pride in your efforts

what issues you have encountered -- Maybe someone here can help you get over this hurdle.

        > I see we can add DEVxx under Ethernet in Panel Manager

You can rename the DEVICES to something a bit more appropriate to your application.

IIRC, the name length is 8 characters.

An 8 character device name that you specify is waaaay better than DEV021. :)

Thanks @Garry (Customer)  & @kewakl (Customer)  I got it.! There was a dropdown menu to select the devices in Tag Name Database window.

@romnov This was answered by ADC_HMI_CLICK_PE on another answer below.

"Glad you got going. No that is not possible. All devices have to be added as part of the project on the PC."

Thanks @ADC_HMI_PE (AutomationDirect) I got it.

Another QQ, Is it possible to enter slave's ip address directly on the hmi screen? rather than going to cmore software and adding DEVs under ethernet,?

@romnov (Customer) Glad you got going. No that is not possible. All devices have to be added as part of the project on the PC.
