MOSAIC Program 2 Safety Systems Linked

Hello,

I have 2 extruder machines that will each have their own safety system. when only one machine is in operation, I need the safety systems to be separate. However, there are times when these machines will be running simultaneously. During this 'dual machine operation', if you will, I need these safety systems to be linked or interlocked together, so if an Estop is pressed on one machine, it will shutdown both machines.

  1. Can this be done in the MOSAIC Software?
  2. Or will this need to be done externally with wiring, relays, etc.?

Hey JB you should be able to do that with the Mosaic, especially if each machine is going to have it's own controller. I haven't used them on any multi-safety controller network (which also might be a possibility) but you could use safety I/O to accomplish the handshaking.

Well, that what my original question was about...I was hoping this could be done using only ONE controller. If anyone know how this can be done, please enlighten me. On the other hand, Adisharr(or anyone for that matter), can you give me a brief explanation about the last sentence in your reply? How would this be done? Externally or in the software?

Are you just talking about using one of the status outputs or an OSSD output to feed directly back into the second controller?

When you said two safety systems, I assumed two controllers. You can do that all in one controller, you just need to make sure you have enough I/O to handle everything.

The Mosaic uses a form of function block diagram which is very flexible for doing custom safety configurations. I would watch some of the tutorials to see how it works but you can easily add logical conditions, timers, etc..

For any safety device connection, you must use a safety input or output. You don't want to run a an external safety relay from a status or monitor output. Also, most input safety devices will require two input connections so plan for that.

The Mosaic itself has a number of inputs and outputs (all solid-state) so if you need safety relay contacts or other additional input or outputs, you can add an expansion modules.

Can you send a sketch of the safety devices you have now if any and how they are wired? You'll also need a signal from each machine that determines when it is running to send back to the controller. What kind of hazard is present if both machines are running and only one is E-stopped?

Here is a screenshot of what I have in the MOSAIC software. This is for one machine. I will be duplicating this. I haven't spent a lot of time figuring out how to link the two systems. I have tried the Interpage In and Out functions but I always got a Loop Error.

Would a run signal from each machine be wired to an Enable function?
