Move Do-more software installation

So, I have the Do-more application installed and working fine, but now I'm moving to a different computer and I want a means to backup and restore all the settings I've changed within the application (along with all the various projects as well)

is there a simple way to do this?

Thanks in advance, James

    Hi James,

I would go ahead and install the program on the new computer. Ensure that the folder that holds your programs is saved and moved to the new computer. (These should be automatically backed up)

Within the program itself, you will need to go to view | options... themes... color setup...

You can make a note of these settings and then set them on the new computer.

Unfortunately, there is no simple way that I know of to save your preferences within the software.

    Regards,

    Garry

    Thanks guys,

Back on this project now, one other question, I did my original design on version 2.5.2,Looks like 2.8.3 is available now, any problem opening my project in the newer version? Would any firmware in the PLC need to be updated to do this? I don't mind using the old 2.5.2 version if that makes things simpler..

If you utilize any new PLC (firmware) features, you will be unable to write it to the PLC. PLC features are designated by their Do-more Technology Version, which is similar to the actual firmware version.

For example, DmT 2.8 has new instructions and Web services like REST and FTP. Firmware version 2.8.x all support DmT 2.8 (2.8.1, 2.8.4, etc. The 3rd tuple .x is small incremental firwmare updates, not major DmT features).

It's best to update the PLC firmware to 2.8.4 (I think that's the latest) along with Do-more Designer. However, if you decide to NOT update the firmware but still install and use 2.8 Designer, PLEASE CHANGE THE 2.8 Projects FOLDER and MIGRATE YOUR PROJECT FILEs to 2.8 Projects folder (you will be prompted at install time to do so). This way, your existing 2.5 project files will remain in their folder, but copies will be made and put into the 2.8 Projects folder, and any modifications you make to those 2.8 files will be for 2.8 - you will still have your ORIGINAL 2.5 project folders (just in case you need to "roll back"). This is important because once you save a project file in a NEWER version of Designer, that .dmd project file CANNOT be opened by the OLDER version (i.e. Designer 2.5.2 CANNOT open a 2.8 .dmd project file nor can Designer 2.5.2 connect to a PLC that has a project written by Designer 2.8).
