Click PLC trouble initializing new modules

I have an existing Click system, with a C0-11DRE-D CPU, and a few input and output and analog modules, 4 total. I am trying to add 2 new modules, a relay output and an input module. I have done this before on many systems, but this time I am struggling.

I put the CPU in STOP, powered down all 24VDC to the CPU and modules, and plugged in my 2 new modules, latching them securely.

Re-applied 24VDC, left CPU in STOP, went to PC to try and setup the configuration. I can add the 2 new modules in the System Configuration (only when disconnected from PLC), connect to PLC, write to PLC, and upon going back to System Configuration it informs me that the PLC(ONLINE) has no modules in the 5 and 6 slots.

Same occurs if I put the CPU in RUN position, and try to write (in STOP mode) the new configuration does not take.

Please advise. I am still using Programming Software version 2.30. Not about to change firmwares in the middle of this task.

The Click modules are pretty cheaply made and I've had a couple of the bus connectors come loose when attaching modules. Check to make sure they are held in place by the module enclosure.

    Hi Bolt,

    I would contact AD.

The only thing that I could add is to check the pins on the side of the modules to ensure no pins are bent.

    Regards,

PS - They will probably have you at least upgrade to 2.60 in the software and try first.

I've never experienced this and it's good to know. But I'd say it's more a QC issue. I've had expensive stuff not work out of the box due to careless assemblers.

      • Bolt (Customer)

It likely is a QC issue, but then again, I didn't look at the connector at all before attempting to expand, so don't know if I dislodged it, but I doubt it. Working blindly, I just snapped the new modules to the DIN rail and slid them over.
Once rebuilt, the plastic clips hold the connector in place fairly well.

Yes, I just finished doing that. I removed the existing last module, disasembled the housing, got the ribbon cable connector snapped into the plastic correctly, and re-assembled. Now it all works.

      Thanks for the update Bolt.
