Productivity Simulator Shuts Down Moments After Starting

I have installed Productivity Suite 3.8.0.14 on both Windows 8.1 and a fresh install of Windows 10 and in both cases the simulator fails when started.

When the simulator toolbar icon is clicked, a message to download to the blank simulator is displayed and 2-3 seconds later the simulator goes offline. It goes offline too quickly to select transfer from the menu and when Shift-F9 is used it does not complete before offline.

Once the simulator has gone offline, attempts to reconnect will timeout and eventually bring up the select physical PLC dialog. I've tried with my firewall completely disabled and got the same result. Only existing the software and restarting will allow another attempt at the simulator, and a circle begins..

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour and if so, how did you correct? Any suggestions on where I might look next?

Thanks in advance for any help, Dave.

    I was getting a "failed to start simulator" message when opening 3.8.0 The error that RobAus noted was being generated in the Windows Event Log. I called tech support and they mentioned that some other customers had some network related issues causing a simulator error. I was able to solve my issue by disabling unused network ports.

    My desktop has the typical onboard LAN and a second 4 port LAN card. At this time I am only using the onboard LAN so I disabled all the ports individually on the second card and the error stopped working. I re-enabled one and the error comes back instantly.

    I have some other odd issues with this mutlt NIC setup with the c-more software too.

    Hope this helps someone else.

    I'll do that this evening. As well I've set up a fresh instance of Win10x64pro in VMWare. I'll install Productivity Suite 3.8.0.14 and see what happens (both with and without firewall and defender). I'll let you know... Dave.

      New everything: fresh VM of 10x64pro, fresh 3.8.0.14, and voila, success!

      Would still like to figure fault if possible on other systems though as one is my daily driver : )

    I do not have any issues with the simulator but i am running in a windows 7 VM. I second trying disabling the antivirus and another thing to try is to run as an administrator.

      Thanks, z28z34man.

      I forgot about running as an administrator.

      Thanks, always a good tip. As an administrator on both 8.1 and 10 unfortunately result was same. D.

    I've seen exactly the same behavior on a Windows 10 machine that has run the simulator Ok in the past. Will sometimes run immediately after a restart but subsequent attempts will fail. Seems to trigger a DCOM 10016 event:

    The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

    {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54}

     and APPID

    {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402}

     to the user xxxxxxxxx SID (S-1-5-21-541161803-1519535355-245336571-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

    Does anyone know if this might have something to do with the problem?

      You seem to be getting a true error. I'm experiencing only shutdown and unavailability, but the software otherwise keeps working.

      Maybe we CC this thread to a bug tracker (if such exists).
