GS20 Drive Communications - Ethernet/IP

I have a GS23-41P0 Drive. I realize that I need the additional Ethernet interface card to communicate via Ethernet/IP. However, is there a way to do this with out that add-on card? With the GS2 Drives I could use the GS-EDRV100 which converted the Ethernet to RS-232 or 485. Is it possible to use this same card on the GS20s?

Possibly, as I'm currently communication via RS485 to two GS20s from a P1K. Just be aware the write values for run and stop are different for the GS20 compared to a GS2.

    What plc?

Do you want to communicate Ethernet I/P, Modbus TCP, or Modbus RTU from the plc?

I will be using a Productivity 2000 series PLC. I will be adding up to 8 drives and 2 remote PLC IO Bases. The network for this system was built using Ethernet IP, hence the reason I am wanting to use that protocol.

I am interested in using the GS-EDRV100 card for testing only. I will be using the add-on cards for the actual project. However, those add-on cards are currently out-of-stock, expected to ship in January sometime. In the meantime, I was wanting to do some testing and didn't have a way to communicate using Ethernet IP.

I would do my testing with the built in modbus RS485. from my limited reading you will need a rj45 brake out board.

If you wish to use Ethernet I/P then the GS20-CM-ENETIP module is the only way to do this. That module will allow you to do Ehernet I/P or Modbus TCP and it is only 63.00 per drive. If you were to try and use the GS-EDRV100 it would cost 207.00 per drive. And the memory mapping through the GS -EDRV100 to the GS20 may not be correct. We think you could run the drive in GS2 mode, but there would need to be some testing, so not a definite answer.

Thank you for the help. Like I said in my previous message I only wanted to use the GS-EDRV100 for testing. I do plan to use the GS20-CM-ENETIP for the actual project. I have not used a GS20 drive yet and was going to learn how to control them via Ethernet before I designed my control system. But alas, I guess I'll have to wait till the one I ordered arrives in January.
