Just curious about the experiences others may have had with the new PLC Firmware Update Tool. So far, I haven't had much success. Today, after downloading the latest v1.48 250 CPU firmware, the Firmware Update Tool and the Update Instructions, I tried updating a 250 CPU that had v1.39 installed and a date code of 0010. After lots of experimentation, I was not able to get the tool to install the firmware even though it would correctly recognize the comm link when the "Auto " mode was selected. After several retries, it always returns an "Error 99 " dialog box. Another issue that I have found to be highly annoying is that it appears to install it's older OCX's over newer ones that may already be present on your system. In my case, it causes VB6 to gripe about Comctrl32.ocx Needless to say, I 've gone back to using the older PLC FTOOL update program since it at least works, even if it isn't all that pretty. Regards, Russ O 'Rourke

Have not tried the new tool but I will be updating our firmware very soon. Will be interesting to see if Microsoft's claim to have ended DLL Hell with Windows 2000 is really true. Maybe by the end of the week Russ

Russ, I 've had exactly the same experience as you. I finally gave up on upgrading the buggy 1.45 firmware and sent those CPUs back.

OK maybe I'm dense, but I can't upgrade firmware using the latest firmware tool.

I'm trying to update a 250-1 CPU from 3.72 to 3.80. I 've connected w/ DirectSoft, initialized the scratchpad, then I exit DirectSoft, and try to use the firmware tool.

I always get a message that the CPU is not responding or there is a cable problem. Thing is I'm using the same cable into the same port for both (15HD to 9pin COM1 to PORT2).

    Any ideas?

Marksji, There should be a new tool available shortly that will address this problem. Stay tuned and I'll let you know as soon as it is released.
