Double Up On Digital Outputs (24VDC, sourcing) ?

Is it possible to tie together two outputs of a D2-08TD1 (or F2-16TD2P) module, to power a single load? You see, the D2-08TD1 has 0.3A per point (the F2-16TD2P has 0.25A per point); and the load needs 0.46A (11W at 24VDC). Note: please do not suggest the D2-04TD1 because I'd like to keep the wiring at 0VDC most of the time. Thank you.

No, because you cannot be sure that the load will be split equally. It is better to use an interposing relay if you need more amperage than the output will allow.

Sorry I forgot to say that the load will only be ON for 0.5 seconds max. per (10 seconds to 10 minutes), would that make any difference?

After all the F2-16TD2P is thermally protected so I figured by the time the output heats up, it has done its job.

The F2-16TD2P specs also mention a "0.5A " peak, so does that mean I could power the load with just one of its outputs?

    Thanks again.

I think the response to use a relay is the best way to go.

Yeah - like, you ask a question about apples and they tell you to eat oranges.

In this case, you want to switch solid state, and they tell you to use relays.... :banghead:

After studying the hardware some more, I think I'll go with the F2-16TD2P, because it allows for a peak current of 0.5A per point which is more than sufficient, I only need 0.46A.

And I only need 6 points, so I'll double up anyway for redundancy's sake and tie 1 to 7, 2 to 8, 3 to 9, etc. the purpose being: its LEDS will flash in the same pattern, whether A or B is selected.

How long are you going to warranty this system?? I'm pretty sure AD will not warranty the output card if used the way you describe above!

What's the point of asking if ya just ignore the answer?

I don't think these outputs are meant to power anything...

Perhaps the switching current on a SS relay, but my guess is they are more meant to be a output to another DC input say on a VFD or remote I/O of another system....

You can buy solid state relays to increase your switching current. Here's one example...

Look at the Ultra-Thin Long-Life Relays here...

I wouldn't want to build a system that was knowingly overdrawing the outputs, or even one that was marginal.

Thank you all for the input. Y 'all are right, it's pushing it too far to be remotely certain of a trouble free system.

I could go with the relays. You see, I remember reading they would last 100,000 operations. So if they would operate once per minute, I would have to change out relays every two three months. But the 100,000 operations is at the *rated current* of 10A at 30V. These will only do 0.46A hence their life expectancy is much longer.

But, the relays could die after 1-3 years or so, so I'll get those nice thin long life relays from McMaster Carr that Bob S BN suggested anyway. Then if something breaks down it's most likely not them.

    Bob Thanks a lot!
