After years of connecting to port 1 with my laptop I am having the following issues: 1. Laptop Com 1 - > Port 1 gives "Comm error unlocking PLC; no reponse from PLC " 2. Laptop Com 1 - > Port 2 connects ok. 3. Laptop via USB/Serial converter - > Port 1 connects ok 4. Tried a fresh CPU...same problem 5. Tried a different laptop, with same com port settings...connects ok. Both laptops run XP (SP3). Everything points towards the serial port, however I don't understand how I am able to connect to port 2. Is it possible that the com port is damaged where it would act up with port 1 only?

Offhand it sounds like a grounding problem between the laptop and your PLC. Since RS-232 is a ground referenced signal, it is possible that the laptop and the PLC are at differing ground potentials which can cause issues with connectivity.
You might try connecting to the PLC while running only off of the battery in the laptop. Also if the PLC is not grounded, you should ground it. Preferably the PLC and the PC are getting their power and ground from the same source.

Regarding the forgotten password. Contact AD technical support. The unit will will have to be sent to them to be erased.

Contact AD technical support.
Is no access. :(
Maybe unsolder the memory and erase?

It's easy.
Remove (unsolder) the memory 29F400, and solder a new memory M29F400BB-70N6T, password is removed, all erased next step - programming the new firmware.
