I am spec-ing out a linear encoder for use with a CTRIO H2 counter I know what mechanical resolution I want. but I am confused as to what the minimum edge separation can be to work with the CTRIO H2 counter The output of the encoder is Quadrature in a range of 0.12 microsecond to 24.0 microsecond edge separation the encoder is a Balluff BML-S1B0-Q53F-M400 and insight would be appreciated

    Minimum Pulse Width 5 ?sec

    1 Millisecond = 1000 Micro seconds

    Thanks for the reply Rich19551

would the CTRIO H2 handle a 5 ?sec pulse on each input or would I have to multipy by 4 to not have too high of a freq.

in other words what is the fastest quadrature signal the H2 can handle ???

2 quadrature encoder counters up to 100kHz, or 1us

The H2 is desined to run independent of the CPU to drive it's own I/O but if you are trying to use the information in the CPU you are limited to scan time.

Be carefull of what you are trying to do.

    Rich,

I am designing a system simular to a DRO with the ability to calculate a "distance to position " read out on a C-More display panel.

this device will be hand cranked like a manual lathe into position. As the operator gets close he will move the slide slower so my thinking was that the scan time issue will not be a factor.

The PLC will not have any other "duties " other than calculating the math for the recipie part selected, 1 output inhibit when the slide is between two positions, and calculating the value to display.

so I think the scan time will be very short....
