DL05 question

Hi all, a quick question for the experts out there! A customer of ours has a DL05 connected to an Optimate 1500 and is using an analog card in the option slot. This system is used to monitor a process and provide an alarm when an alarm state exists. They are requesting the ability to monitor this system from a guard house which located on the other side of the plant. They want the ability to "see " what the HMI is displaying and silence the alarm from that location. Currently the alarm is wired to the fire alarm system, and has no way of silencing it from the guard house. I think the easiest and most cost effective is to install a beacon and PB in the guard house, but is there an easier way to do this possibly over the web? Thanks in advance for any advice. -Dave

Not easily since you have the option slot filled. I would go with the beacon and pushbutton myself.

Don't know much or anything about the Optomate 1500 except it uses RS-232 which is the only comm he has on his DL05.

But there is a second serial port, could that not be used with, say ,a CMore Micro? Could also use RS-485 to get to/from the remote HMI if it were used.

    Just a thought.

Thanks for the replys, what is the range for RS485? This remote panel will have to be located well over 1000 ' away. Possible farther.

    Thanks again.

Theoretical maximum is 4000 feet, I'm sure this would be at lower baud rates.

So in theory I could add another HMI small C-more connected via RS-485 to the DL05 COM 2 port and use that a remote monitoring screen?

Programming wise, the HMI's would look at the same registers? The COM2 port would just have to setup as such?

    Thanks again,

    Dave

Because the 05 does not do RS485 you would need a FA ISOCON. See the attachment from the Cmore manual.

Ok, so it looks like I should do the following:

DL05 port2, setup for K-Sequence-----> FA ISOCON----->Cmore (micro or regular) port 2 using EA-MG-SP1 serial port adaptor, for micro, or straight to port 2 on regular CMORE.

    Am I missing anything?

    Thanks again,

You can leave all protocols selected, the DL05 will be a slave to the HMI. I would not expect any speed above 9600 baud to work well. But you never know.

Thanks Milldrone, I appreciate your help.

So when connecting a seconday HMI like this, it doesn't affect the performance at all of the main HMI (optimate)?

The CMORE will only display certain error messages when they occur so any sort of delay will not affect anything due to lack of speed....

    Thanks again,

    Dave
