Has anyone tried out DirectSoft and/or C-More under Windows 7 yet? I'm thinking of trying out Win7x64 on my notebook, but before I take that leap I thought I'd see if there was anyone who'd fallen flat on their face trying it already ;)

OK, I didn't get a reply so I decided to just give it a shot :cool:
DirectSoft seems to work if you let it install to its default directory (C:\DirectSoft5), if you don't let it install there (say, you try to put it in program files where it belongs) you get errors about programming support for xxx plc not installed (even though it is).... regardless if you 're willing to put it in C:\DirectSoft5 it seems to work just fine.
C-More, C-More Micro, NetEdit, and the Firmware Update Tool all seem to work flawlessly... or at least they seem to work in the short hour or so I 've been playing with Win7.
Now if I could just get AuctoCAD 2000i to work.... :mad:

AutoCAD 2000 uses some 16 bit components. Good luck with it. I tried for quite a while to get it to work under Vista x64 before I finally found a note that said it wouldn't.

I actually managed to get ACAD working OK in Win7x64 except for reading from our main file server... our main file server appears to have a minor issue (server keeps dumping connection) with everything in Win7x64 so now I'm trying out Win7x32... We'll see :rolleyes:

I was running the first beta of Win7, Build 7000 in 64 bit, but unfortunately, as the drivers for the USB/serial converter from AD weren't signed, I had to run with drivers signing disabled at startup.
Otherwise both Directsoft and C-more micro seemed to run fine.
When I upgraded to the RC build 7100 I downgraded to 32bit.

I played with Win7x32 for a while last night before dumping it to go back to trusty XP-Pro :D
Overall I liked the interface Win7 provides, but it puts up so many barriers to simple things (never did get a VPN working) like non-signed software & drivers as to make it effectively unusable for actual work.
keycoldstorage, how did you disable driver signing? I ran into a major issue with an unsigned .CAB I needed to download and run (our VPN tunnel software) and never did figure out how one gets around Win7 "protecting " you from yourself.

Press F8 during startup, which gets you the Windows advanced boot options... Then iirc there is an item labeled something like "Start Windows with Driver signing disabled "

If you have issues with running older programs with Win 7 you can use the virtual-pc mode to run windows XP inside of Windows 7.

Since Windows 7 has been out for some time, could someone give an updated experience with DirectSoft and C-More in Windows 7? Do DS and C-More work flawlessly in Win7? No driver problems?

No insurmountable issues for me. The Koyo USB adapter that comes with C-More Micro touchscreens still does not (and probably will not) have signed drivers.
As noted previously, if you 're running Windows7 Professional or Ultimate, there is the option of running a Microsoft sanctioned XP virtual machine for those software packages that just don't want to upgrade.
