Help. Am working on a D2-260 Ethernet based application. Am experienced with the D2, but have NO, NADA, NEIN, ZIP, ZERO experience with the ethernet part of this application and am totally lost. I made sure - thru many calls to A-D Support - that I was on track with my hardware so I could get ahead and have the system built to stay on schedule. I am now at the point of starting the software. As usual, am under the gun and do not have a lot of "learning curve " time. Need to get this set-up right the first time. Looking for some step-by-step guidance. My system basically consists of the following: Main Cabinet contains: Master Rack with 260 CPU, 1 - 16 pt Input, 1 - 16 pt Output, I - H2- ERM, 1 - D2-ECOM100. 2 - E-SWO5U Ethernet Switches 2 - GS-EDRV Ethernet Interface Cards 2 - GS3-45PO 5HP Drives 1 - Third party - Ethernet Based - Motion Controller 2 - Motor Starters ( controlled via PB's and I/O ) Remote Operator's Console # 1 contains: Remote Rack # 1 with 1 - H2-EBC, 2 - 16 pt Input, 1 - 16 pt Output 1 - C-More Touchscreen - Ethernet Version PushButtons, Lamps etc. Remote Operator's Console # 2 contains: Remote Rack # 2 with 1 - H2-EBC, 1 - 16 pt Input, 1 - 16 pt Output Pushbuttons, Lamps, etc. The H2-ERM in the Master Rack will feed one of the E-SWO5U Switches. This Switch in turn will feed the 2 - GS-EDRV's/GS3's and the 2 - H2-EBC's in the Remote I/O Racks in the two Remote Consoles. The D2-ECOM100 in the Master Rack will feed the 2nd E-SWO5U which will in turn feed the Third Party Motion Controller and the C-More Touchscreen. Where do I start to set this system up? That is, do I start with ERM WorkBench Utility?. Where does NetEdit ( mentioned in the ERM manual ) come into play. I was told I would need Kep Direct Software. I bought it, but am not certain what to do with it. What about assigning the I/O addresses on the I/O modules in the master and remote racks. The only thing I know for sure is what the Parameter settings on the GS3's ( p. 8 of the GS-EDRV manual ) are to be set at for. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to make the most of this 3 day weekend. Thanks Sawz

The first place to start would be the manuals .

Netedit is used to set the IP addresses for each device on the network. each device must have a unique IP address. I suggest using something like 192.168.xxx.xxx or 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, where xxx is a number between 0-255. The last number is the one that must be different. EG 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.11, etc

After setting up IP addresses for each device, you will need to setup the ERM using the ERM workbench utility. It starts off with a step by step wizard, so it's kinda hard to get too lost with it. Be sure to save the configuration and to print out the memory map so you know where each device is located in the PLC memory.

As far as your third party motion controller, you will need to read up on the Hx-ECOM-M manual . This is probably the most complicated part of the system to get running if you haven't done any communications before. I am assuming it uses MODBUS TCP/IP to communicate.

This should get you started. If you have more questions just ask. The forum folks are always good to step in and help as long as you are showing effort.

    ADC App Assist

Thanks for the reply. I just wasn't sure which step to take first or if it mattered.

I will proceed with NetEdit as suggested and follow through with the Workbench and then yell for further help when needed.

    Regards,

    Yelling for further help.

Decided to go with the DIP switch method of Module ID to make it easier for the final customer to replace failed modules.

Got thru Step 5 of the Workbench Wizard with no problem. All slave specifics were right. However when I picked "Write to ERM " after about a minute I got a "timeout, could not reset the ERM module ". Do you want to retry Y/N?

After several Yes tries and the same result, I tried No and got the Workbench Main Configuration Window. At this point I tried following the Workbench steps beginning on p 4-9 of the ERM Manual.

Everything goes well until I get to the "Select Slaves " section. When I pick Slave # 1 and pick configure, the screen looks identical to that shown on p 4-12 of the manual. I pick OK and go on to the next Slave. The ID number and the Ethernet Address change accordingly for each Slave.

When I finish none of the Slave Status buttons change color and "Slave # 1-not configured " is displayed in the window below the numbered boxes. If I pick Slave Status buttons 2, 3, & 4, they are shown "not configured ".

Somehow I am failing to get the Slaves configured.

One thing I keep coming back to is when you first pick the "Select Slaves " button, you get a message to the effect, " In order to select and configure the slaves, the PC running ERM Workbench needs to be connected to the specific remote Ethernet slave network. " I do not remember it exactly as I left my notes at the office, but there is a second part of this message that tells you that once this connection is made, click OK to continue.

I am assuming I am already hooked up to the "specific remote Ethernet slave network ". So I simply pick OK. Is this where I am going wrong?

Is there some setting on the D2-260 CPU I have failed to change?

Can anyone out there help clarify what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks

Here is what HOST Engineering has in their FAQ for that error.

If you are using Module ID, then you will need to have IPX installed for your Network card. If you still can't get this to work, I'd suggest calling Technical support since troubleshooting IPX protocol is a bit too nvolved for the forum.

    Update

    ADC Apps Assist,

    Appreciate the reply.

When I had originally set this system up, I put a one line program in the 260 consisting of a NO X0 contact feeding a YO output and an END statement.

Next, I set PORT 2 for Modbus per p. 5-19 of the DuraPulse manual. Also, I had set all of the Module ID switches ( power off ) as outlined previously.

I checked the I/O configuration in the master rack and it showed the input module, the output module, the 260-ERM and the 260-ECOM100 in Slots 0 thru 3 respectively.

Following the procedure in the manual for Workbench Wizard, it went perfectly. All Slaves were found and all I/O were recognized. However, as explained prior it would not write the configuration to the ERM.

After multiple re-tries, I tried putting 3 slaves with the ERM cable and the PC cable in one hub and reinitiating the Wizard. Again it found all slaves present perfectly. Still would not write to the ERM. Tried different cables with the same result.

Gave up, went home and re-re-re read the manuals again looking for something I overlooked.

Came back in over the weekend, powered it up and tried the Wizard again. This time, it recognized the modules, but "not found " was in all of the Slaves I/O columns. Started the Wizard again. When the "Ethernet Remote Master Found " screen came up and I picked "Flash Error Light ", it did not flash the Error light for 3 secs as it had done everytime previously. It flashed the "active " light one time in that 3 sec period.

Searching further, I noticed a red "non fatal " error at the bottom of the Dsoft screen to the left of the green "RUN " indicator. Picking it, it showed a E203 error, which indicated that the 24VDC supply or one of the modules were a problem. Since supply was OK, I assumed it was a module. Checked the I/O configuration and all was OK except the ERM. Previously it had showed 260-ERM for SLOT 2. Now it showed something like 260-u!!)-(=//. It was simply a bunch of gibberish following 260.

So, I turned the power off, removed the ERM, turned it back on and the error was gone. Powered down, put module back in, and the error came back. Obviously, module was bad.

It may or may not be that the ERM was faulty all along, and it finally had a catastrophic failure on power-up.

I have someone headed to AD to get one.

Hope to try it again this evening.

    Will keep you posted.

    D2 Ethernet issue

    Update.

After getting a new ERM module to replace the failed one, I was pretty much right back where I started. That is, still unable to download to the ERM. Obviously it was something I was doing wrong. The module failure was just happenstance.

Called and talked to a very helpful Tech @ ADC. He quickly tracked it back to the Network setup on my laptop. I had two connections set up on my Laptop. One was an LAN and the other a Wireless Link. I did have the Wireless Link disabled, but you cannot have the IPX protocol on both connections turned on.

We turned the IPX protocol on the wireless link off and from that point the ERM setup went great. Hope this helps someone down the road.

    Latest D2-260/ERM/EDRV/GS3 Ethernet Issue

Again, with the help of one of the Tech Support guys at ADC, I am now communicating with the two GS3 Drives through the PLC. So, I am slowly getting there on this project. Thank Goodness for ADC Tech Support!

My latest issue is that I am wanting to display the actual speed - scaled in FPM - of one of the motors on the C-More.

In looking at the Input WORD Map ( p. 10 of the EDRV Manual ) for the GS-EDRV, it appears the "Present Output Frequency " is Not Available. Late this afternoon, I talked to the Tech at ADC about this and he concurred, but would look into it further and if anything comes up advise me via e-mail.

So, does anybody out there know of a way to do this?

Also, I don't see a way to monitor the Drive - via the PLC - to see if it is actually "running ". Any suggestions there?

    Thanks,

    Sawz

    2 - E-SWO5U Ethernet Switches

    2 - GS-EDRV Ethernet Interface Cards

    2 - GS3-45PO 5HP Drives

1 - Third party - Ethernet Based - Motion Controller

    2 - Motor Starters ( controlled via PB's and I/O )
