Can't Communicate With PLC Through H2-ECOM or H2-ECOM100

I cannot establish a connection with a DL-250-1 or DL-260 with either an ECOM or ECOM100. All I get is a Transport Protocol Error and Timeout Error. I verified the network cable to be good by connecting it to my DL-06. The Link Editor and NetEdit can only find the H2-ECOM and H2-ECOM100 using IPX while TCP/IP works just fine for my H0-ECOM100. The Link Editor and NetEdit detect the processors just fine. I have the same problem whether I use my desktop or laptop. EDIT: I brought the 260 and ECOM100 to work and can connect just fine. I can even use TCP/IP. I didn't bring my 4-slot base to work, though. I'm using a 9-slot base at work. The base couldn't be the problem, could it? Chris

It could. Back in the beginning the bases had a lower power budget than current bases. If the base is more than 4 years old it could be one of the lower power budget bases and not have enough budget for an ECOM if there are other modules installed. I doubt that this is the case however.

Then again it might just be that the base is bad. It's not very common, but it can happen.

I'm sure that you are aware not to put anything but discrete, analog, or a CTRINT in the slot next to the CPU. No other modules will work correctly there.

It sounds more like a subnet problem to me. The fact that you can see the modules when using IPX and not when using TCP/IP suggests that your PC and the H2 ECOMs are on different subnets.

    What is:

    - PC/laptop IP address and Subnet mask?

    - H0-ECOM IP address and Subnet mask?

    - H2-ECOMs IP address and Subnet mask?

The ECOM is the only module in the base, and it's in the last slot. I only have one NIC in my desktop, and I only use the wireless adapter in the laptop (wired is disabled).

My home network subnet is 192.168.96.0, 255.255.255.0. My desktop IP Address is 192.168.96.60, and my laptop is 192.168.96.70 (255.255.255.0). The H2-ECOM100 was setup with an address of 192.168.96.102, and the H0-ECOM100 with 192.168.96.101.

All looks fine, Chris, except the behavior you are seeing may be due to the fact that you "only use the wireless adapter in the laptop ". I'm guessing here, because nothing else makes any sense. Wireless is notorious for unexpected hiccups and delays and repeated telegrams. Since everything else looks logically OK, this is my guess. You might try using the wired NIC (if possible) and see if you get the same results. Otherwise, in establishing the Link from DirectSOFT to the ECOM/ECOM100s, manually pick UDP/IP and enter their IP addresses and increase the Timeout values in the link.

If you are using wireless a lot of wireless routers and some cards filter the ports. This could also be the source of the problem. Port 0x7070 is not a typical port and would likely be blocked if the router or wireless card were to be one of the ones that filter.

And I don't know off the top of my head which ones do and which ones don't. You might dig around in the router's advanced configuration to see if it does.

Well, I bought a new 6-slot base and am still having the same problem. The problem happens on both wired and wireless computers. I restored the factory defaults in the ECOM100 and noticed that it isn't able to get an IP address from my DHCP server. I'm starting to suspect my switch. It's a managed Layer 2 HP ProCurve. My next step will be to connect everything up with a simple 8-port "dumb " switch. :)

Moving everything to a different switch didn't work. I ended up setting up another computer and installing DirectSoft, and that did the trick. I am very confused at this point. lol

Because it works on the "new " computer, to me that says DirectSoft didn't install properly on the others (probably) due to an antivirus or spyware program blocking some portion of the install.

And most likely that blockage was when the installation program tried to set up the firewall settings. And if that portion of the installation did not complete successfuly due to antivirus or spyware blocking it, the the firewall is blocking the necessary TCP port (28784) that needs to be "open ". On each computer the firewall settings are seperate for the wired and wireless connection.

So I would compare firewall settings of all three. I suspect you will find your problem there.

    Same issue

I do have the same problem with little bit differences.

    I have DL06 as master asking to 1 Dl06 and 2 DL05 for status of X? inputs.

No problem between DL06´s but DL05 don´t communicate.

NETEDIT show all ECOM100 cards, but those plugged into DL05 show ???? on CPU. FAQ suggest to upgrade firmware but I did it on both DL05. Fimrware DL05 v5.20.

Something curious happened at first time, i connected one DL06 with DL05, using theH0-ECOM100 manual example. It worked okay. At that time, they use d DHCP, after that I seted the cards with static IPs.

The PLCs are connected to a router (working as switch),

    PC IP 192.168.2.10

    Mask 255.255.255.0

    gateway 192.168.2.1

    DL06_01 192.168.2.2

    DL05_01 192.168.2.3

    DL05_01 192.168.2.4

    DL06_02 192.168.2.7

    Thanks.

    Questions:

    - Can you connect to the DL05 via the H0-ECOM100 with DirectSOFT?

    - If you connect to the DL05 serially with DirectSOFT, what does Config I/O show the H0-ECOM100 as?

    - In NetEdit does the H0-ECOM100 in the DL05 pass the CPU Test?

Make sure all the H0-ECOM100s have the same subnet mask and gateway settings.
