can a 260 master communicate via remote I/O to a 405 slave? has anyone tried this?

205 Ethernet Remote Master module and 405 Ethernet Base Controller.

You mean like to an RS module?
Sure, but not friendly at all code-wise.
I agree with Franji, use the ERM/EBC solutions and be done.

Note that one H4-EBC can support the 3 additional local expansion bases. That's ONE H4-EBC for FOUR 8 slot 405 bases.
