CTRIO and analog position data

I am trying to use a CTRIO to drive a stepper motor to control a conveyor width adjustment. my problem is that instead of encoder or some digital counter input i hav ethe input from an A/d board What I want to do is to be able to have a target position and then use the number from the A/d board to as the actual position. I have tried to "cookbook " it fromth erun to postion examples in both the ibox and the CTRIO manuals but I cant seem to get any pusles outputed
