I have a DL405 with a D4-440 CPU and a D4-UV-1 Memory Cartridge. I can down load the program stored in the PLC to my PC, but I can not write a program to it. The comm link appears to work well. The link is set for 440 K Seq: K Sequence, Address 1, Comm 1. Baud Rate - 9600, Parity - Odd, Data Bits - 8, Stop Bits - 1 and Flow Control - None. The software I am using is DirectSoft 32. The Error code displayed when I try to write a program to the PLC is “E 104 Memory Cartridge Write Failed. I have looked up this error code in the help section of my programming software and it states - “A write to the CPU Memory Cartridge was not successful. The Memory Cartridge may be write protected. Disassemble and check the jumper. If the error still occurs replace the Memory Cartridge. I have disassembled the Memory Cartridge and can not find any kind of jumper in it. Could the jumper be located some where else in the PLC? If any one can shed some light on this problem I would gladly give you my first born. Thanks Scott

P.S. The Keyswitch is in Term position and the port I am using on the PLC is the top, 15 pin, port. The port on the PC is the RS232 port.

Read page 3-13 of the 405 CPU manual. That cartridge holds a UVEPROM which must be erased with ultraviolet light and programmed using the D4-HPP handheld programmer. You may wish to change to another type memory cartridge such as the D4-EE-2.
