Is there any way to use a 120 nickel rtd with the F2-04RTD module?

This RTD type is not supported by the F2-04RTD.
Only these RTD types are supported by the F2-04RTD (See Page 6-3 - http://www.automationdirect.com/static/manuals/d2anlg/ch6.pdf ):
Pt100
Pt1000
jPt100
10 Ohm Copper
25 Ohm Copper

I understand that the nickel RTD is not supported but what I was wondering and did not make myself clear, is if anyone has written any type of conversion in ladder that would convert the reading that you get, to an accurate value when you hook up one of these rtd's to the card . I may try it myself if I can figure out what kind of factor to use. I don't understand why the nickel rtd's are not supported since they are used widely to monitor the temperature of motor windings.

The nickel curve is VERY different than that of the platinum curve. The resistance curves are not linear. We do have nickel in the F0-04RTD, I can suggest to engineering to investigate the cost of changing the firmware to allow Ni120 ohm. How many 1000's of units will you need a year? How soon do you need them and what scheduling for sending the 1000 units?

This is an interesting question. Sorry, I don't have an exact answer, but what temperature range will you be measuring? Could you convert measured temperature to actual temperature by assuming a straight line between two narrow points? For example, by using compare instructions, if the measured temperature is between 2-points then use a given factor? If your range is small, this may be manageable. I don't know your requirements and budget, but I would look at using a signal conditioner to read the RTD and provide a 4-20ma signal. Have you looked at signal conditioners?

FACTSTech, You make it sound like a huge job to change the firmware to support Nickel RTD's yet they are supported for the low end 05's and 06's. Makes no sense to me. I did not realize that the F0-04rtd module supported the Nickel's. I can use an 05 with this module and connect it to the motor windings then network the 05 back to the 260. A bit inconvenient but will solve my problem. Thanks for your help.
