I had a 'doh! ' moment yesterday. I 've designed a system that includes a DL06. Yesterday I was loading all the software up onto a laptop to go to a trade show. When I went to test it, I realized that there's no COM port on a modern laptop! What is the least painful way to transfer software, using DirectSoft 5 or DNLoader, from a laptop to the PLC? Is a USB interface coming? Do I have to buy an Ethernet card and use that? I'm looking for a trivial solution! I'll be asking the same question on the EZAutomation forum regarding my touch panel HMI. USB to RS232 serial adapter. AD sells one that seems to work every time.

Cheaper ones can be found easily that (in my experiance) work some to most (but never all) of the time.

Thanks so much for the prompt reply.

How do I make the laptop relate to the USB-to-serial adapter as COM1?

The USB to serial converter's driver makes it appear as a standard COM port in your device manager. From the device manager you can set which COM port its using (COM1, COM2, etc).

Terrific! I 've bought a couple -- maybe I'll buy one from ADC, too...

    Grateful for your help,
