running DL-05 & DL-06 on our milling machines to control coolant flow but I want to know if any one has created a system to monitor coolant concentrations and if so an idea of how you did this? Thanks, Kevin

Do you have a metering probe for the concentration?

Although it is a little late in the response, I was just curious.

I have not gotten much further with this. I was at a loss for what to use to measure the concentricity of the coolant. I think once I got the sensor/meter, the rest would not be to bad. I do appreciate your help.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

I have no idea if there is such a device already availabe, however, if I was going to design something from scratch I would compare a beaker of ideal coolant with one that is out of spec. Experiment, perhaps you could shoot a photo-eye with an Analog output across a container that would have just enough in it to make a difference when the opacity changes. Or perhaps look at changes in color or maybe look at resistance or changes in PH where you might find an off the shelf sensor.

    ecskevin,

Here is a inline process refractometer http://www.topac.com/to02006.html

They give you a diagram on how it works perhaps if your clever you can make one yourself. It doesn't look cheap!

Most shops check concentration using a hand held refractometer.

If your using rustlick coolant here is a PDF of recommended concentration to refractometer readings http://www.itwfpg.com/refract_readings.pdf

I currently use a handheld model to check concentricity but have plenty of I/O left in the D06, thus thought about completely automating our milling centers coolant system. There are complete systems out to accomplish this but they are very expensive.

I will check out the attached links and see if this is worth pursuing.

    Thanks for your ideas/input
