I am new to controls so please bear with me. I have spent tiring hours trying to understand how to setup a PT1000 RTD with the F0-04AD-1 12-bit analog input module. What will the RTD field circuit have to look like in order to operate acurately in a range from -40°F to 100°F (approx. 843-1147 ohms)using the 4-20 mA input on the module? Any advice or links to resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You will need a FC-R1 signal conditioner to get an RTD transformed to 4-20ma.

Would I need a signal conditioner for a 0-10VDC (instead of 4-20 mA)Analog Input module as well?

If changing modules is an option, the best solution would be to get a F0-04RTD. The F0-04RTD is designed for RTD input and gives a direct temperature reading.

I was attempting to avoid the hefty price tag of the 16-bit RTD input module. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/frown.gif

How about a bridged RTD used in conjunction with an F0-04AD-2? Has anyone ever used a setup like that?

The only way that this is going to work is to get a F0-04RTD or a FC-R1 or the equivalent.

You will need a very precision reference power supply, several resistors to setup as voltage divider, being careful not to run to much current through the RTD. This will cause all of your reading to be off in temperature. Then you will need an intensive ladder program to compensate for the not linear effects of the resistance changing over the temperature scale.
By the time you get done messing around with all of this......will be cheaper to use the RTD module since all of this is built in...Expensive we are the least of ALL the PLC products on the market.
