    Krak,

My customers love the idea, but their IT departments always but the kabosh on the implementation. They don't feel comfortable opening a port in their firewalls is the main reason.

We have one customer who is setting this up right now. To address these concerns they stated that they would only plug in the Ethernet at the machine if they have already called and set up for us to observe/troubleshoot. Of course we will have the PLC password in place.

is there a way to side track the firewall, ie go around it instead of through it?

I'm not an IT type guy. I don't know if the 'port pass through ' setup with DirectSoft lends itself to any degree of security. In my view someone with Directsoft, with the correct password, would have to try to access that particular IP at that particular port number. If that isn't secure enough the possibly a VPN setup in the customer's plant. But don't ask me the details on that.
