I finale broke down and bought a new laptop ‘Dell Inspiron 6000’ it has no serial port. From Automation Direct I got the USB-RS232 GoldX and from the web site the latest downloads for both the USB-RS232 and Directsoft 32 V3.0. Saturday I carried my new laptop to a couple of machines and tried to connect to a D05 with no results. I know I must be doing something stupid. Help Tommy

I am assuming that you know what COM port the USB adapter is assigned to. If not then go to Control Panel -> System (you can find it under classic view) -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Ports, COM & LPT. Find the USB-Serial driver, right click and select properties. Click on the Port Settings tab, then click on Advanced. From here you can select the COM port that the USB-Serial connector is assigned to.

If this isn't it, please call 770-844-4200 and ask for help with the USB-Serial convertor.

For the USB-RS232 from GoldX is a new driver. This driver is much better, works also with the Vacon drives. Here you can find this driver: www.plcdirect.nl

To Tech Guy.. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.. Plug and Play is not always Plug and Play! I got connected to a DL130 this evening at home and all should hook up now. Thanks again for the help
