I/O wiring options

Shot myself in the foot here (nothing new). I proposed a system to our mgmt utilizing a DL-205 with 3x 32 pt input expansions, and 3x 32pt output expansions (both require a 40 pin connector). Forgot to look at the connection options for these...is there a cheaper alternative to using the ziplink connection cable and modules? I can't go back for more $ now... -Mike

You have 4 options
1 Beg for the money and get the ziplink cables. Easyest and most costly$ option.
2 Buy the 40 pin connectors and make your own cables. Hardest and cheapest option.
3 Return the 32 Points for 16 points then you dont need the ziplinks.

Actually if you figure in you time building the panel, the Zip Link cable is the cheapest option. You dont necessarly need the Zip link terminal modules though. Our use of the 32 pt I/O requires that some of the inputs and outputs are wired to the same terminal in the panel. This is for a 3 wire button/indicator light setup that dramatically cuts down of field wires. We purchased a Zip Link cable and cutoff one end, to wire it to regular terminals. This went rather quickly over having to wire both ends by hand, saving time and money in the assembly process.

Mike, A-D sells prewired 32-pole connectors sans the ZIPLink end. They 're 3 meters long too!... http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/cool.gif

Thanks for the link. This is a well kept secret as this cable isnt included in the zip link selection chart, or offered as an option for the D2 32pt I/O modules. I even called AD and asked for pigtail cables and they told me they didnt have any for my module. Figure that! BTW the cable I acutally ended up using was about 4 bucks less than the pig tail you posted. Figure that too???

Yeah, I did notice that. The pigtail is a meter longer in length. I guess 1 meter of cable is the equivalent cost of a preterminated ZIPLink end?... http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/wink.gif
