I have an application where I will use a DL05 Plc. My power supply is 12 Vdc. I don't know whether the D0-05DD is an option, as I am confused by 2 conflicting statements on the DC output specs: 1. output voltage range = 6-24V dc 2. external dc power required = 20-28V dc, 150mA max. Can I use my 12V dc supply with these outputs (sinking)? Can someone clarify this for me??

    Mpiotro,

In order for the outputs of the D0-05DD to function, it needs 24 VDC power to operate the transistor output of the internal opto-isolator.

With the 24 VDC power in place, the second stage of the output circuitry (another transistor) then switches your 6-27 VDC to the field device attached to the output screw terminal.

Look carefully at the diagram "internal module circuity " in the catalog or manual. You will see that both 24 VDC AND the other 6-27 VDC power supplies are required.

Thus, if 12 VDC is the only power you have, the outputs won't work! (If 12 VDC is the only power you have, what is powering the PLC CPU? http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/smile.gif ).

The D0-05DD-D is 12/24VDC powered. The CPU runs just fine on 12VDC.

I know with the D0-05DR (also 12/24VDC powered) the relay outputs will activate just fine on 12VDC. I 've got on in my truck and it works great except when starting (the truck). The DL05 doesn't recover from brownout. A small 12v battery and diode solved that problem though.

Guys, thanks for your help. I'll go with the D0-05DR-D (12V/24V dc in, relay out).
