205 power supplies

I have a 4 slot 205 base with a 12VDC power supply. Can I swap it to a 9 slot base with a 120VAC power supply. yes i know it will void the warranty but these units are older and I am prototyping a portable metering system

As the bases and modules are sold seperately I dont understand why this would void the warranty. you should be able to switch bases as long as you have a 120vac power supply for the base. If your I/O is 12vdc than you will also need a 12vdc power supply.

Actually, I wanted to do the same thing. I accidentally purchased a 9 slot base with 120VDC power supply last year. (Typo on company headsheet, lol) I'd like to just purchase the 120VAC power supply and swap it out.

It sounds like a voided warranty would be the least of your problems. The power requirements of 9 modules may be a little heavy compared to 4 modules. The power supplies placed in the various sized bases are there for a reason. This is a flaky system waiting to happen. I would think that a field failure is truly NOT an acceptable option.
Have you thought about using expansion I/O or ERM with another 4 slot 12VDC p/s base?

I think what franji1 is saying is dont move a power supply from a 4 slot base to a 6 slot + base because it's made for only 4 slots, (power output). $200.00 is cheap for a new base if you compare it to all the trouble you can cause with shutdowns etc..
If the cost of the base realy bothers you goto Ebay and buy them there like I often do. (sorry ADC..)
