Trouble opening a project

I created a project some time ago using DS 4.0 Brick for a DL06 PLC. I tried to open the project offline yesterday but I receive an error message stating, “PLC type is not supported by any installed knowledge base. How can this be? I created the project with the same program I’m now trying to open it with. Any suggestions? The PLC with the online program is in the field and not available at this time for program download.

You can get this error for several different reasons (see other reasons in DirectSoft FAQ0080 on Host's website); but based on your scenario with the Brick package I would say that your project file is corrupt. This error ( "PLC type is not supported by any installed knowledge base ") simply means that DirectSoft cannot read the CPU type from the project file. This is usually fatal. So unless you have a backup copy of this project, it is probably lost. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/frown.gif

I don't think my project is corrupt because I can't open two different backed up copy's of it have burned on CD either.

You know when you first open Directsoft and you have the screen which lists which PLC's are supported, well mine says:

    Version:

    4.0 (build 18)

    Additional Info:

    Programming support is installed for

    DL 205 Series

    DL 105 Series

    DL 05 Series

Is the 06 Series supposed to be listed as well?

If it is, where did it go?

This Project was the only one I created for a DL06 so I have no others to try and open.

Directsoft cannot open a file directly from CD. It needs to be able to modify the contents of the files and cannot do this since it is read only. This also applies to files that are copied from a cd. To copy a project from a cd the files must have the read-only attribute stripped from them after they are residing on the hard drive.

Go into Windows Explorer and find the project files. All of the files with the same name belong to the project and must have the read-only attribute stripped. Select all of the files, right click on them and select properties. Now uncheck the "Read Only " box.

    Thanks Tech Guy,

Your suggestion didn't solve the problem but it is a good thing to know next time I need to open a file from CD. I'm going to try and reload DirectSoft when I get a chance and see what happens.

If DL06 is not listed, then the error message you are getting is actually true. Which would mean that you don't really have the PC-PGM-BRICK package on this PC. By your listing, it looks like you have PC-PGM-105 (DL05, DL105 support) and PC-PGM-205 (DL205 support). These two combined would give you the list you say you have and not allow you to open a DL06 project. Also, if you had these packages before (PC-PGM-105 & PC-PGM-205), then buying the PC-R40-U upgrade package would not add the DL06 support either. If you do have PC-PGM-BRICK package, then something is wrong; uninstall and reinstall. Hope this helps!
