Do I absolutely, positively need DS Data Server with Wonderware InTouch? Gentleman: Could you please let me know if I can use any of the I/O servers that come with Wonderware InTouch v8.0? I need to work with a 450 and a 250-1 CPU’s and I’m not sure which I/O servers to use or whether I need to spend another $300.00 in DS Data Server. Also which port on the 450 CPU should I use? Thanks to all Andy

Last time I checked, Wonderware does not have an I/O server for AutomationDirect PLCs.

Kepware makes I/O servers for AutomationDirect PLCs, but they run $800.00

If you are purchasing an Intouch Runtime license, you can purchase an Intouch Runtime without I/O license. Doing so will save you more than $300.

    Pat:

Does your answer meant that I better purchase dsDataServer in order to use Wonderware's inTouch.

If this is the way to go, so be it, I'll do it, ley me know please?

We find ourselves in a similar situation. We have an older version of Wonderware that is being upgraded to the current version of WW and would like to know the pros/cons of purchasing Top Server I/O servers vs. Kepware I/O servers vs. DSData (which we presently use). Is there a significant performance difference between the three?

Other than DSData, it looks like we would have to purchase multiple I/O servers depending on the protocol we use (we 're presently using both ECOM and DirectNet). Is this true?

I 've searched the archive but can't seem find consensus on this..

Wonderware should be able to talk Modbus RTU. Port 2 of the 250 and port 1 and 3 of the 450 can be Modbus slaves (as well as the DCM modules for each family). The only downfall is that there is a Koyo-to-Modbus address conversion that you need to do. So in the WW application the tag address is 40001 which gets you V0 in the PLC. So you don't have native Koyo addresses in your WW application.

The conversion is not that difficult is you use the spreadsheet at: http://support.automationdirect.com/docs/modbus_conversion.xls

That should enable WW to be used with Koyo PLCs and not have to use Ds-Data, you just lose native addressing
