Floppy Drive connection to a PLC

I am working on an application that requires a "cut list " to be downloaded into a DL250. Ideally I would like to find an external 1.44 MB floppy drive that communicates to the PLC through RS232 or ethernet. I am trying to avoid installing a complete PC just to get access to the floppy drive. The information that I will be writing are simple values I would like to import into designated v-memory locations in the PLC. I have not been able to locate a drive like this, does any one have some direction as to where to look?

The problem would be getting the drive to handle the data in a format that the plc could understand. It is just too complicated for a generic device. It would have been a great idea several years ago, but now with PC prices so low, a dedicated device like that would be cost prohibitive.

The ideal device probably for your application would be the ability to store data in to CF Memory Card. I know Koyo do not have this but Omron does. This would be a great feature because this opens many opportunities for the use of the Koyo PLC's in the area of data logging and retrieval of data into PC's for analysis. This is something I am trying to do now and it is not easy.

I heartily agree. It would be awesome if we could access a Flash card to store data. It would negate my reason to switch to a PC. Presently I am using the CP-128 for data storage, but it is limited.

Maybe this might be something FACTS might want to take up (Mac or Don, Hint, Hint).

I have to sound off as well. We have been analyzing our data collection systems and we have looked at PXI, microcontroller and PC based systems. Web capability, processing speed and mass data storage are all common criteria. The PLC has all but mass storage and we would like to see this capability added as well. As always, an increase in processing speed would help too.
