I am able to start up the Remote Master and Remote slave without a problem. I can toggle Y's and read inputs. However, when I install the F2-02DAS-2 (2 channel isolated analog output), the system doesn't work at all and the PLC develops a fatal error. I am suspecting that because these modules are new, the firmware in the RMSM and RSSS has not caught up with the update. The PLC does recognize the modules correctly, if I do not install the RMSM. Any ideas?

Additional info: In the System Information windows, it show under Error Information near the Fatal Error: E250 I/O Bus Failure
Also, in the text window, it says I/O bus error
OBTW, I am using DirectSoft Version 3.0c, build 58
CPU firmware is V.146
Thanks, I really am stuck.

Crissy,
I'm not sure if this applies to what you are trying but on page 7-16 of the DL205 Analog I/O Modules it says "... You must also use the multiplexing method with remote I/O modules (the pointer method will not work) "
This one got me one time.

Sid

Yes, but I am using a DL250, not a DL230 for which that rule would apply. Thanks for the thought though. The feedback I am getting is that the 24 VDC supply I am using is too small for the amount of modules and the two 24VDC racks I am using. I am going to try a bigger supply Monday.

au contraire Mssr Crissy,
You missed the ALSO. As with when Bill Clinton speaks, one must parse the words carefully... with remote I/O even with the 250 the pointer method will not work. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/smile.gif

I am glad about the Mssr salutation, because crissy is my wife's dog's name. Trust me, I am a mssr. I took your lead and read the F2-02DAS-1 manual and by golly, you are right. I read this before but understood it as you could not use the pointer method if the analog module was in the remote rack. In my case, it is in the base rack. I will try changing the setup program over the weekend. But this I can say for sure, with only the setup program for the RMSM and the RSSS in the PLC, no setup for the analog output modules but with the analog output modules installed in the first base, it still failed. Your answer still has me intrigued to try it out. Merci, mon ami et bon nuit !!!

In case anyone was following this thread, the solution was, as advised by Shane at Automation Direct, to up the amperage on the power supply I was using to power the racks. The racks were the 9-slot, DC type and I was using too small of a 24VDC power supply.
Thank you Shane !!!!
