Help! We have a recurring problem with the processor dropping out of run mode. Most times it just goes into program, sometimes it faults. Initialized scratchpad to try and pinpoint the fault, but it returns gibberish(dates like 00/00/41) with funky characters after it. I/O config check turned off. System setup looks like this: 6 Slot Base CPU Slot- D2-250 Firmware ver 1.36 (Upgraded) Slot 0- D2-16ND3-2 Input Module Slot 1-3 Empty Slot 4 H2-ECOM Firmware ver 1.0.47 D2-250 Port 2 set for Modbus, 40000,500,19200,1,none. Connected to a Eurotherm/ Chessel chart recorder that gets pressure, flow, temperature, and dewpoint (4-20ma) information from our plant air system. PLC is not controlling anything, it is used simply for data collection purposes. H2-ECOM talking to Wonderware for data collection. This happens roughly twice a week, but is not consistent as far as any particular time or any other outside condition. The SP Bits set; 44-47,54,71-73,and 131. Is this an ECOM compatibility problem or what? I had an I/O configuration error a couple of times so I turned off the I/O config check. I also did a clear processor memory and reloaded the program today. Any info I can use?

Sure does sound like a grounding or AC power problem.

Perhaps you could be getting noise on the serial link? Is that shielded? How long is the run and is it near anything that might induce strong EMI, like heaters, welders, motors, etc?

This happened to me on produced water disposal system.
The hardware involved follows:
1) D2-250
2) OP1500, OP1312, OP9001
A static charge was generated on the lexan window of an operator interface terminal. When the charge was significantly nasty, it would discharge onto the metal backplane and ultimately the Optimates inside. This in turn would zip over via the serial cable into the 250 and drop it out of run mode.
