I have a BX-DM1E-18ED13-D PLC. When I try to connect from the software I keep getting a timeout error. I made a new link, it sees the plc, but it won't work connect either. This is strange as I started it up after I got it yesterday afternoon and it would connect just fine.

Are you using the Ethernet port? Can you see it with NetEdit? Can you ping it?

Thanks for your response. I am using the USB port. Took me a bit (no pun intended) but I finally found what I was looking for in the user manual. In 11-11 it shows how to do a factory reset, which I did, and it is back to where it was when I received it, and it will connect.

    Lol, lots to learn!

Like Arnie "I'll be back " I'm sure.

I recommend updating to the latest firmware and software if you have not done so already. There was a minor tweak to the POM communications that could help with USB comm issues.

@BobO: Yes I was using the POM. It seemed like there was some sort of corruption in the PLC mem and no matter how I tried to connect it would give me the timeout error. Also it seemed once I got the timeout error I would get it again no matter how I tried to connect until I did a reset again.

@Do-more PE: I checked the update link in the help menu and it says I have the latest version of both software and firmware. Do I need to do it manually?

I can clear the mem in the BRX. Connect through the link for my plc. write a small program and accept it, save it. and write it. Set the BRX to run and it works. exit out of the software and turn off the plc. Then start the software up again, turn on the plc and select the link, then open. When I do this it says: The plc you have chosen to connect to seems to match an existing disc-based program. so, I select to open the project and I get the timeout message. I continue to get the message no matter how I try to connect. It will not let me open an existing project np matter how I do it. Baffles me.

I may try and uninstall the software and reinstall and see what happens:

Edit: I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it and the same problem. I think something is wrong with the plc.

Please contact tech support and talk to them. It is a free service. If they cannot get the problem resolved, then you should do an RMA and send it back in to the attention of the Do-more Product Engineer (me) and I will take a look at it.

Have you tried connecting to the Ethernet port?

Once you have connected, what is the PLC scan time after clearing? After downloading a simple program?

I guess it could be hardware, but I don't know of any hardware failure that would produce the symptom you are describing. My question about scan time was part of me trying to determine where the error might be.

Something was going on with the plc as I could do a factory reset on it, and it would let me connect until I tried to open an existing project. Then it would do the error. After the error it would not connect. Then I could do the reset again and it would connect...... When I get the new one I guess I will see if that solves the issue. I will report back.
