Hi Sorry i'm not very familar with Networking aside from home wireless networks but they are set up pretty easily. Anyway at work we cover the whole state of maine and have plc's at multiple locations and we are finally trying to be able to log in remotely and either diagnose a problem or update a program over the internet. we do use a switch and Ecomm cards right now to communicate with C-more Panels but we don't connect our little network to the company network at this time. I'm asking if you can map your plc's kinda like a drive in your network and restrict access or something or is there a place with some info on remote connecting to your plc's. The books on the ecomm cards refer to it kind of but not very in depth. Any help on where to find some info would be greatly appreciated.

We set up a VPN router at the remote site and use a VPN client on the laptop. When connected thru the VPN it's like setting on the local network. We can hook up, troubleshoot and edit the programs on the plc and the c-more.

I 've been doing VPNs to customer sites across the world for several years now. Always it seems like coordinating with existing network and/or working with the ISP far far away is a pain in the rear
What I 've found recently is that you can setup a VPN router with a cell connection for a pretty reasonable price and literally have a box you can just ship wherever you need it and all the end users have to do is plug it in... they don't tend to come back either because once the end users see what's possible with remote programming help they don't want to give it up.
I 've started using these:

That I buy from these guys:

And then setup on Verizon by working with this guy:

All in all this is the simplest VPN setup I 've found ;)

Thank you all for your help. Right now its in the hands of our IT guy as to what option he wants to use but the VPN sounds like the way to go.
