Hi, I have been lurking and am just about to buy my first click, I am new to PLC's but have been in the electronics industry for many years. The Click I am looking at is an analogue, seems best to get a fully configured. I have used this company http://www.byvac.com/index.php for I/O in the past, as I have mentioned I am new to PLC's. However having read the Click datasheets and looked at the software, seems to me I could communicate with the byvac smart serial range of devices, does anyone see a problem? All the best Ian

Of course you could use the CLICK serial port for additional I/O. However, give a good look at the AutomationDirect CMore Micro series of touch screens.
I did look at the byvac web site you referenced. The serial interface to the display modules but I did not see any PLC input devices. (It was a quick look :D)
But, as I mentioned, the CMore micro touch screen products are an excellent way to get PLC information displayed and as a operator interface that can handle most jobs you need for the CLICK and you get factory support for both products.
Glad to see the byvac reference as I also use Atmel AVR micros. The LCD screen that excepts VT100 commands, never thought of that, slick idea.
And by the way, both the CMORE MICRO an CLICK software are free!

Good Advice
Hi,
Thanks for that, I had not realised the Cmore software was also free, I will check it out.
The LCD and perhaps the keypad was what I was looking at, simple reason is price, All of this is for learning only and as I am already going with the Analogue model, if I also went with a Cmore, I would be looking at spending around 300GBP. If I had a real project then I would probably go with the Cmore.

make sure you understand that the Cmore MICRO and CLICK software are free, just download and install. The CMore software NOT the Cmore MICRO) is not free.
Examine online at AD and you will see that the CMore MICRO HMI touchscreen products are very cost effective and some in a variety of configurations.

I got the software this morning and have also read more of the documents and agree this is a cool product, for a professional project it is the best solution.
But if I can use a product that's 1/10 of the price for learning, it will at least get me used to using the serial commands from the Click. so that when/if I get a project that can justify the c-more then I will only need to concentrate on learning the panel.
That's my thinking anyway, actually thinking about it I could just send the data up a second serial port running a data logger and save the money towards a c-more:)
