Need communicate a D06 through modems, I understand usually should be: Computer --- MDM-Tel modem --- Public telephone system --- MDM-Tel modem --- D06 My question is: can we do like below? Computer --- modem (any commercial or built-in in a Lap-top) --- Public telephone system --- MDM-Tel modem --- D06 Another, whether MDM-Tel modem is possible to connect to Port 1 on D06?

This is always difficult to answer. Phone lines are notoriously finicky things when you are doing modem communications.
That being said, The only way your first question will work is if the modem is connected to Port 2 of the DL06 and Port 2 is set for No Parity. Then it might work.
I say might, because not all modems are created equal. In a PC you have two types of modems; hardware and software. Hardware modems do all the signal processing in the modem, software modems send it to the CPU. Software modems tend to not be as robust as hardware modems.
In your second question it can only be Port 1; if the modems are MDM-TEL or another modem that supports Odd Parity. Modems that support Odd Parity are as rare as hen's teeth. Most out of the box Laptop/Desktop modems do not support Odd Parity.

Thank you for your help.
Is that mean the best configuration is:
Computer (built-in series port or USB to series port) --- MDM-Tel Modem --- Public Telephone System --- MDM-Tel Modem --- DL06
Whether can I monitor and change the value of remote DL06 or download the programs into it by running DirectSoft05 on the computer? How do I use the DirectSoft05 to initiate phone call through MDM-Tel Modem? Where can I find any instruction menu about the communication between DirectSoft05 and MDM-Tel Modem? Thanks a lot.

On the tech website there's a document, a bit outdated with Directsoft32, but probably still a good place to start. http://support.automationdirect.com/technotes.html#misc look for AN-MISC-003

We have numerous systems that we connect frequently to via modem. These range from D05, D06 to DL250. We commonly use Multi-Tech ZBA modems. They are programmable which will allow to be connected to Port 1 or Port 2 but there downside is they are not industrial they are more commercial so that means they are only AC powered, and not Din-Rail mounted. It's easy to add a receptacle inside a control panel or use a receptacle nearby, and can be bought online at computer stores such as CDW for 1/2 the price of the MDM-Tel Modems.
