Can PC with a KEPDirect on it poll data from remote plc connected to a modem? Can I send any data TO plc through this modem?

Yes, modems are supported with KepDirect.

KepDirect supports bidirectional data transfers, so depending on the application that you will be using it could be able to write data to the plc.
Of course as always, modem use depends on the quality of the phone lines.

Where to start?
I have DSData Server on my system and I am able to download to Excel when connected directly to the PLC.
If I connect via a Modem using using DirectSoft to establish the modem link, I can then start DSData and update my v-register data in Excel.
If I connect to the Modem using Hyperterminal (Windows XP). I can start DSData and the values seem to update when I start Excel, however the spreadsheet does not update.
SO, what I'd _really_ like to do is to simply start Excel, and have it start DSData (it knows it needs to) _and_ dial up the modem connection.
If that is not possible, I would be OK with starting DSData, then Excel, but I see no way to connect to a modem from DSData. In directsoft, you can simply click the link and it dials the modem and starts communications.
thanks,

If you start Excel, and it needs DSDATA, it will start it.
If DSDATA needs data from a modem link, it will dial it.
But I think there were some nasty bear traps if trying to use modems to multiple devices with DSDATA, I think there is likely a FAQ on it at the Host site.

THANKS!!! Amazing! It worked, but I had to add the executable path so that it found DSData.exe.
It is so obvious, now. When I started Excel, it never could find DSData.exe before, so I put the folder that DSData sits in as one of the $PATH variable on the system. It started DSData, & dialed the modem...
This is so much simpler than what I had been doing! Thanks again!
--now, on a similar note--
Does this same procedure work with KEPDirect for PLCs? When I open a spreadsheet that can talk to KepDirect, it looks for a program called "KEPDIREC.EXE ". The executable is called "ServerMain.exe " in KepDirect.
Assuming this works the same way that DSData works, how do you get KEPDirect to startup when Excel is looking for it?

Just like DSDATA, if Excel requests data from Kep, it ought to start.
Having said that, the intent of being able to run KEP as a service is to obviate this requirement by having it always running.
