Hi,

Stupid question... could it be a virus or worm? Sounds like Blaster.

If it is DSData then it might be a driver issue. What are you using as a link? Serial (maybe through USB?) or ethernet. I 've had a different problem with a PCMCIA card that wouldn't allow me to shut off the computer. I had to right click on My Computer go to Properties select the Advanced Tab and then the Startup and Recovery button. Under there I turned off the "Automatically reboot " on system failure. That way I could track the problem a little bit better.

Thanks for the reply.

No viruses. Brand new computers and the latest Norton is run on these. I'm using the serial port comm1 as the link.

Thanks for the advice about not letting it reboot automatically. I assumed that would be better to automatically reboot, but I see maybe I should uncheck that to find out what's going on.

I 've checked for all the latest updates.. I'll try what you suggested..

This Visual Basic program is the main program, accessing the PLC through the OPC.

I'm not sure about your question. I guess a good test would be to just let the OPC run by itself..

Go into your system setup under manage computer in my computer properties and turn off the automatic reboot feature. this will prevent windows from automatically rebooting and allow you to see the error.

We are running VB6 with DSData OPC on several sites that are 24/7 and some have run for months without being rebooted. I just (really bad move) rebooted one the other day because it had been running for 75 days and the hard drive failed when it rebooted. Oh well....

I realize this may be too general, but has anyone else had issues with DSData OPC server running and causing Windows XP Pro to reboot due to a "bug check " ?

I have a P4 2.8mhz, 512M ram, late model PC running XP. Nothing but Visual basic running on it.

If I run DSData, it will run fine 95% of the time (It runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week on some long term tests, along with a visual Basic program).

Once and a while I will come to this computer and it will be in the login screen. When I log in it tells me that it rebooted due to a "bug check ". There is some code there, and a dmp file, and I'm currently working with Microsoft to find the cause, but I ONLY see this happen when DSData is running. I'm not blaming DSData, only wondering if anyone else has seen this. Is there some hardware or bios setting that could make it do this?

I have a local PLC (06 I believe) on commport1. Nothing else is going on that I know of http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/smile.gif

Any advice on how to troubleshoot this is appreciated!
